The outside spurs outline the hole and help prevent fraying, chipping, and blowout. The replaceable 1 8 diameter high speed steel center point starts the hole and prevents the bit from walking. Replace the center point with a 1 8 drill bit if desired. Can be re sharpened or re tipped.
