L533 calcite 17th century Italian fragment mountedFishtail selenite in its matrix on lucite. Fishtail selenite is made up twin crystals of optical selenite that have grown together in the shape of angel wings or "fishtails." This crystalline form of selenite gypsum is comprised of striations that look like optical light fibers. Unusual in size, these specimens have been mined by hand in Mexico.
