Once a year, the High Priest would come to offer a sacrifice to the Lord for the sins of himself and the people. When Christ was crucified, the curtain was torn from the top, to show that the Lord was now accessible to His people. Hebrews describes this beautifully: "In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete.
