The vessel achieved lasting renown as the flagship of Captain Robert Falcon Scotts British Antarctic Expedition (19101913), which reached the South Pole in January 1912, only to find Roald Amundsen had preceded them. The expedition ended in tragedy with the deaths of Scott and his polar party, though Terra
