Perhaps it was a souvenir he bought and sent home to his family

The inside is a light orange colored warm fuzzy material

The inside is marked "Made in Germany

The only thing I was able to find about the company was an archive listing him as a goldsmith from 1923 1945. Both the box and brooch are in decent condition but both show signs of wear age. The box is a little dirty and discolored (especially on the bottom). The pin on the brooch is a little bent. The brooch measures about 1 3 4" in
